Chronic Pain Management
The vast majority of musculoskeletal conditions, with the appropriate care and attention, will resolve and provided a proper rehabilitation process is followed, not return. However, unfortunately there are a small percentage of patients who develop a chronic pain condition. This is a condition which continues in spite of the normal treatment approaches being taken, usually over a period of at least three months. Often in these situations the initial injury subsides but the brain continues to interpret pain signals coming from the body from normal, non harmful movements or postures. This process can often lead to a vast reduction in activities and reduced ability to participate in the community.
These patients require a multidisciplinary approach to management which will often include your GP, Pharmacist, Pain Specialist, Psychologist and Physiotherapist. Physiotherapy is vitally important as a graduated general exercise program, specific physiotherapy exercises, advice on pacing and activity modification will all assist in the gradual increase in function and quality of life of those in chronic pain. Here at Brighton Beach Physiotherapy we will ensure communication is kept open with all relevant parties assisting in the management of your chronic pain.
